Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site. We use only the cookies and browser storage the site needs to work, such as keeping you signed in and remembering a choice you make. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies.

2. How we use cookies

The code of the TraceErase website does not set any cookies. It uses your browser's local storage and session storage instead. Local storage stays in your browser until the site or you clear it. Session storage stays only for the tab you are using. Nothing in either is an analytics or advertising identifier. This is what the site keeps there:

  • Strictly necessary, local storage: your sign-in session. The sign-in service we use keeps it in your browser, under a name that begins "sb-" and ends "-auth-token", so that you stay signed in.
  • Strictly necessary, session storage: short-lived notes that carry you through a sign-up, sign-in or email-link step in the same tab. They are the organisations and actions you chose before signing up, the kind of email link you opened, a search term, guide or dashboard page you were being taken to, a note that a change-of-Terms notice was dismissed for this visit, where you were in the quick tour, and a note that you were part way through Loan Broker Cleanup (the stage and the time only, not your choices).
  • Functionality, local storage: choices that make the site easier to use on this browser: the display theme; the plan you picked on the pricing page, so your dashboard can offer it back; whether you have already seen the quick tour and the "Where to start" page; which free-service links you have opened; which of the optional Privacy Action Plan questions you ticked and any action you told us you have done; and, if you start a check before signing up, a reference to that check so it can be attached to your account.

We do not use analytics cookies, performance cookies, targeting cookies or advertising cookies, and no analytics or advertising script is loaded on the site. When you choose to pay, you are taken to a payment page run by Stripe. That page belongs to Stripe and not to TraceErase, and Stripe's own policies explain what it stores on your device.

3. Managing your cookies

Because the site's own code sets no cookies, there is no cookie choice to accept or decline on our pages. You can clear or block local storage and session storage (often called site data) in your browser settings. If you do, you will be signed out and the choices listed above will not be remembered.

To find out more about cookies, including how to see what is stored and how to manage and delete it, visit www.allaboutcookies.org.

4. Changes to this policy

We may update our Cookie Policy from time to time. Any changes we make to our Cookie Policy in the future will be posted on this page. Please check back frequently to see any updates or changes.
