How it works

Four steps, and a clear note of who acts in each. You stay in control: nothing starts without your written permission, and you can withdraw it.

  1. Step 1: Choose supported organisations

Pick the loan brokers you want us to contact from the list of organisations we can handle today. Choosing one means “I want you to contact it”. It doesn’t mean it holds your data.

    Who acts: You

  2. Step 2: Review and approve requests

Read the exact wording of each request and who it goes to, then approve it. You also give a written permission that you can withdraw at any time. Our team approves the same wording before anything is sent.

Who acts: You, then our team

  3. Step 3: TraceErase processes supported requests

Where we can send a request for you, we do, a limited number each day. Where an organisation needs you to take a step, we pause that request and say exactly what to do.

    Who acts: TraceErase

  4. Step 4: Track progress

See each request’s status, dates and any reply in your account. A reply is recorded with who vouches for it. Sent is not delivered, and neither is removed.

Who acts: You, in your account

In short: choose supported organisations, then review and approve requests, then traceerase processes supported requests, then track progress. “Request sent” isn’t “delivered”, and neither is “removed”. A reply is recorded with its scope and who vouches for it.

Why the messages can keep coming

When you apply for credit online, your personal details can be shared with other organisations, or used by them for marketing connected to credit applications. Which organisations, and what they may do, depends on how each one works and on the permissions you gave.

  • Not every application leads to unwanted contact.
  • Not every message is unlawful.
  • Organisations differ: some act quickly, some take longer, and some need you to confirm it is you.

Applying for credit isn’t something to be blamed for. Asking an organisation to stop marketing to you, and to delete data it no longer needs, is a reasonable thing to ask. You don’t have to give a reason, and this page doesn’t say that any organisation has done anything wrong. TraceErase doesn’t know which organisations hold your details: you choose who to ask.

How managed requests are designed to work

What happens to each request, who acts, and where it waits. The label below says whether managed requests are open right now.

Choose, we handle it, you follow the progressThree stages for a request TraceErase handles, who acts in each, and where it waits. A branch shows the steps only you can do. This is the service as designed; the label shows whether it is open now.

Managed requests right now: Checking whether this is available…

  1. Stage 1

    Choose and give permission

You choose the organisations and what to ask for, then read and confirm a written permission. It names each organisation and action, shows when it ends and can be withdrawn.

    • You

Where it waits: Nothing happens until you confirm it.

  2. Stage 2

    TraceErase handles eligible requests

TraceErase prepares each request from the route TraceErase has checked for that organisation, against its own pages. A member of our team approves the exact wording, then software sends it or the team submits it, depending on the organisation. Your permission and account are checked again before anything goes.

    • TraceErase software
    • TraceErase team

Where it waits: A request waits for our team to pick it up, so no time is promised. If we can’t tell whether a send went through, we check. It isn’t sent again blindly.

  3. Stage 3

Follow progress and respond only when needed

Follow each request in your account: its status, dates and any response, with who vouches for it. You step in only where an organisation needs something from you.

    • You
    • The organisation
    • TraceErase team

Where it waits: Request sent isn’t delivered, and neither is removed. The organisation decides what it does and may keep data it is entitled to keep.

Branch: You complete this step

Some organisations need something only you can do, such as signing in, confirming your identity, following a confirmation link or using their own form. The request pauses and we say what is needed, why, where to go and any date we can support. It shows as “Action needed from you”. Nothing is sent while a step is open, and when you have done it the request carries on.

  • You
  • The organisation

You can stop at any point. Withdraw your permission or cancel a request that hasn’t been sent. A request already sent can’t be called back automatically.

Requests are sent a few at a time. A limited number are sent each day, shared fairly between customers, so we promise no time and nothing is sent in a rush.

Not every request ends in removal. The organisation may decline, keep some data or not reply, and we show what it said. Not every organisation is covered: the list is read live.

What Loan Broker Cleanup includes

Organisations supported today

Reading what is supported today…

Two different requests

You can ask for either or both. Where an organisation supports only one, we say so.

Stop marketing

We withdraw any consent to marketing and object to direct marketing. The organisation may keep a minimal record so your opt-out is honoured.

Erase data I no longer need

We ask the organisation to erase personal data it no longer needs. This is different from stopping marketing, and the organisation may lawfully keep some records.

What you provide and approve

  • Your full name and the email address or addresses you used when you applied. A phone number or postcode only if you choose to add them.
  • Your written permission, naming each organisation and request, showing when it ends. You can withdraw it at any time.
  • Your approval of the exact wording of each request, shown to you before anything is sent.
  • We never ask for passwords, cookies, bank or card details, financial history or ID documents.

Contacting a company discloses the identifiers we send it: your name and the email addresses you give us, and your phone number or postcode if you add them.

How you see progress, and what needs you

  • Each request has its own status, dates and any reply in your account, with who vouches for it. Our team reads and records the replies.
  • Where an organisation needs you to take a step, the request pauses and appears under “Action needed from you” with what to do and where. Nothing is sent while a step is open.
  • Staff step in only within the permission you give: approving the exact wording, clarifying a request an organisation doesn’t understand, and recording a reply. They don’t widen the request, add organisations, or act after you withdraw permission.

Within the permission you give

  • Withdraw marketing consent where it applies.
  • Object to direct marketing.
  • Ask for erasure of information the organisation no longer needs.
  • Record the replies our team reads, with who vouches for each. A member of staff reviews anything we prepare before it is sent.
  • Track every request in your account, with customer support if something looks wrong.

What it can’t do or promise

  • It can’t stop every unwanted call or message, or promise that an organisation will erase every record.
  • No blanket data access requests (SARs). Help with a data access request is separate.
  • No contact with every lender on a broker’s panel.
  • It doesn’t cancel a loan, erase a debt you owe, remove accurate credit history, stop servicing messages or close a credit account.
  • No debt advice, loan matching or affordability checks.
  • There is no promise of unlimited capacity or of a response time, from us or from an organisation.
  • Sent isn’t delivered, and neither is removed. An organisation decides its reply.

Opting out of marketing, withdrawing consent, erasure, closing an account and asking for a copy of your data are different requests. An organisation may keep a minimal record so your opt-out is honoured, and may keep records it is required by law to keep.

What it costs, and what is free

Free, from the organisations

You can object to marketing or ask for erasure yourself, at no cost, and you don’t need a TraceErase plan to do it. Our free UK opt-out guides show the official steps for each organisation.

What the plan adds

  • Preparation: each request is drafted from a route TraceErase has checked against the organisation’s own pages, in the exact wording you approve.
  • Supported processing: after you and our team have approved the wording, we send the supported requests for you, a limited number each day.
  • Tracking: status, dates and replies in one place, and support.

Choose monthly or annual. The amounts are read from our billing records, not written into this page. You choose at the payment step, after you have given permission.

Choose how you pay

Twelve monthly payments come to £119.88. One annual payment is £49.99, which is £69.89 less over a full year of the plan. If you cancel part-way through a year, cancelling stops renewal and the plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for. The Terms of Service cover refunds.

You chose

£9.99 per month

  • £9.99 per month, in GBP.
  • Renews automatically until you cancel.
  • Cancel from Manage billing in Settings, which opens Stripe’s customer portal. Payments are handled by Stripe, and the payment page shows the price again before you pay.

The plan pays for eligible managed requests (software prepares them, you approve the exact wording, a member of staff approves the same wording, and then TraceErase sends them or our team submits them, once delivery is switched on for that organisation), progress tracking, recording the replies our team reads, and customer support. It isn’t a payment for a legal right: you can make these requests yourself.

  • Staff approve the exact wording of each managed request, and only a limited number are sent each day, shared fairly between customers. Software prepares drafts and manages the queue.
  • There is no promise of unlimited capacity or of a response time, from us or from an organisation.
  • Sent isn’t delivered, and neither is removed. An organisation decides its reply.

The commercial terms and refunds are set out in the Terms of Service. Nothing here is a guarantee of removal.

Questions people ask

Why might I receive marketing after applying for credit?

When you apply for credit online, your details can be shared with other organisations, or used by them for marketing connected to credit applications. Which organisations, and what each may do, depends on how it works and on the permissions you gave, so it varies.

Not every application leads to unwanted contact, and not every message is unlawful. If you no longer want direct marketing from an organisation, you can object at any time. You don’t have to give a reason, and the organisation must then stop using your details for it. The Information Commissioner’s Office explains the right to object (opens in a new tab).

What does Loan Broker Cleanup do?

When it is open, it asks the supported organisations you choose to stop marketing to you, to erase data they no longer need, or both. We prepare each request, you read and approve the exact wording and who it goes to, and a member of our team approves the same wording too. Once both have approved, we send it by email or our team submits it through the organisation’s approved route, always under your written permission.

Some organisations need your own login, identity check or confirmation. Those are marked “You complete this step”, we say exactly what to do and where, and you do that step yourself.

Which organisations can TraceErase help me contact?

The list is read live from our list of routes TraceErase has checked. While Loan Broker Cleanup isn’t open to your account, no organisation can be asked for.

Others are listed on this page as “You complete this step” (you do it yourself, and we show how) or “Route being checked” (we haven’t finished checking how they accept requests, so nothing is sent). A name or logo on this page doesn’t mean a partnership, and we don’t promise removal from every company shown.

Does TraceErase know which companies hold my information?

No. We don’t search for your data, and we can’t tell which organisations hold it. Choose the organisations you recognise or think may have your details. Choosing a brand doesn’t mean we found an account or checked that it holds your data. Contacting a company discloses the identifiers we send it: your name and the email addresses you give us, and your phone number or postcode if you add them. We don’t send requests to every lender on a broker’s panel.

Will this stop every unwanted call or message?

No, and not necessarily at once. A request covers marketing from the organisations you choose. Organisations you didn’t choose, and any that have already passed your details on, aren’t covered. Messages an organisation needs to send about an account you hold carry on. Calls and texts have their own free routes too, such as the Telephone Preference Service, and our UK opt-out guides show the official steps. If marketing carries on after a request, tell us in your account and we will review the reply with you.

What will I need to approve?

Two things. First, a written permission that names each organisation and request, shows when it ends, and that you can withdraw at any time. Then, for each request, you read the exact wording and who it goes to, and approve that wording. If we change the wording after you have approved it, you are asked to approve the new wording, and your earlier approval no longer counts. Our team approves the same wording before anything is sent.

We ask for your name and the email address or addresses you used, and a phone number or postcode only if you add them. We confirm your email address, which isn’t identity verification. We never ask for passwords, cookies, bank or card details, financial history or ID documents.

Can I contact organisations myself for free?

Yes. These rights are yours, whether or not you use TraceErase, and using them costs nothing. Our free UK opt-out guides and the service directory show the official steps. TraceErase charges for the convenience of having requests prepared, checked, sent and tracked for you. It doesn’t charge for a legal right, and you never need a plan to use one.

What happens after a request is sent?

“Request sent” means the mail service accepted the message, or our team submitted it and recorded the receipt. That isn’t delivery, and it isn’t removal. Replies are recorded by our team, with their scope and who vouches for each, and shown in your account. Follow-ups for requests that get no reply are planned but are not switched on yet. Each organisation decides what it can erase, and may keep a minimal record so your opt-out is honoured, and records it must keep by law. The ICO explains when erasure applies (opens in a new tab).

How much does it cost?

£9.99 per month or £49.99 charged once a year, upfront. The annual plan is charged in full, once a year, upfront; any monthly figure shown for it is only an equivalent. You choose a plan only after you have given permission. Both renew automatically until you cancel from Manage billing in Settings. The plan pays for eligible managed requests (prepared, checked by our team and sent a limited number each day, shared fairly between customers), progress tracking, recording replies and customer support. The commercial terms and refunds are set out in the Terms of Service; nothing on this page is a guarantee of removal.

What can I do if an organisation asks me to take a step?

Some organisations need your own login, an identity check, a confirmation link or their own form. The request pauses, nothing is sent while a step is open, and it appears under “Action needed from you” with what is needed, why and where to go (the organisation’s own site). We prefer that you send anything sensitive, such as ID, to that organisation directly rather than through us. When you have done it, the request carries on. If an organisation refuses or replies in part, the reply is recorded and we tell you what can be done next. We don’t say that an organisation has broken the law.

Will it cancel a loan or change my credit file?

No. This doesn’t cancel a loan, erase a debt you owe, remove accurate credit history, stop messages about an account you hold, or close a credit account. It isn’t debt advice, loan matching or an affordability check.

Is there a limit, or a response time?

We don’t promise unlimited capacity or any response time, from us or from an organisation. Our team checks the exact wording of each request and only a limited number are sent each day, shared fairly between customers, so a request can wait its turn.

How do I withdraw permission, and what does that change?

Open your managed requests in your TraceErase account and choose “Withdraw permission”. You can also cancel one request that hasn’t been sent, without withdrawing the rest. Three things are easy to mix up:

  • Withdrawing your permission. Stops TraceErase acting for you. Requests not yet sent are cancelled. It can’t recall anything that has already been sent.
  • Stopping tracking. Stopping the tracker or updates only stops us following a request. It doesn’t change anything the organisation holds or has been asked.
  • Withdrawing a request at the organisation. If you want a broker to treat a request you’ve already sent as withdrawn, that is a message to the broker. Email help@traceerase.co.uk and we’ll tell you how we can help.

Take back control of who contacts you

You choose the organisations, read and approve the exact requests, and can withdraw your permission at any time.
